Tim Linder & Colleen Morchinek -April 2024
When Colleen Morchinek (retired paramedic of 33 years) started Hero Invitational in 2022, her goal was to reach men and women in public safety and military careers who are struggling with job-related stress, to offer them support and joy through the love of hockey.
Her inspiration behind this whole idea was her good friend, Tim Linder. Tim was a fellow Paramedic of Colleen’s who served his community with several EMS and Fire departments in the area for many years. He was a compassionate and caring provider, a great friend, and a loving father. Behind the scenes, he also wrestled with PTSD. He was open and honest about his fight with this illness, seeking support and offering it in return to his friends. This concept of mutual support is what kickstarted the idea that is now our annual hockey tournament, bringing people together for cheers, laughter, and camaraderie.
Tim Linder lost his battle with PTSD this June of 2024. He is incredibly missed and forever remembered. This year and every year going forward, even more than before, we are committed to supporting each other, cheering for each other, and fighting for each other.
We skate in honor of Tim and all those like him who fight battles we can’t even see. We skate to remind each other that, as Tim always said, “we’re in this together."
